　　(二)消极的语用功能

　　1.误导读者

　　因为撰稿者模糊限制语的使用，读者很容易就同样一篇报道产生不同的理解和反馈，这种现象在涉及到一些敏感问题的时候尤其显著。因此，虽然模糊限制语虽然给新闻工作者提供了便利。但是，对于读者来说很容易产生模棱两可的感觉。

　　2.逃避责任

　　新闻报道中经常使用“It is said that”“according to”之类的字眼而显得准确客观。但是再斟酌一下，又会发现撰稿者可能是为了自己的利益而故意使用这样的模糊限制语。

　　例10：The losers are native workers who compete directly with immigrants in certain job categories, though the impact on their earnings is small compared with other factors, such as technological advances, globalization and minimum wage levels, said Giovanni Peri, an economics professor at t he University of California at Davis.
